“Higan” is an event which aims at the
creation of an occasion spurring the
meeting of the many entities that, with
great enthusiasm, work in order to study
and spread the different Oriental
specialities and arts. It also means to
provide all those people who still don’t
know them an opportunity to approach
them.
The choice of the term “Higan” was
initially due to the time of the year in
which the event takes place: in Japanese
it means “Spring equinox”. But ideograms,
as it always happens in the writing of
this language, can be subjected to
interpretation and have different
meanings according to the context in
which they’re used. Therefore “Higan”,
translated as “the other shore of the
river” represents another world which we
would like to learn more about and which
perfectly identifies the event’s
cultural purpose.
In this context people with
extraordinary experiences work who,
according to the Oriental tradition, try
to improve themselves through a
continuous investigation in their chosen
craft.
The flow of knowledge is one of the
event’s main goals, aiming to become a
yearly meeting with oriental Arts and
Crafts, which people cannot miss: it
isn’t an exotic folkloristic festival,
but rather a means of development rich
in contents, pursued with a cooperative
spirit.
