All the traditional Japanese arts, in their language of origin, end in DO that means WAY: therefore Ken-do (the way of the sword), Ju-do (the way of adaptability), Kyu-Do (the way of Archery), Bonsai-Do (the way of bonsais). In other words I use the sword, the bow and the bonsai to improve myself. Therefore my aim isn’t to display my skill or communicate my way of thinking, but rather travel along a path of introspection.

The master who performs archery certainly hits the bull’s eye, but this isn’t his aim.
His concentration involves the preparation, stretching the bow and shooting the arrow.
If he didn’t have to hit the bull’s eye, quite a difficult task, it wouldn’t be a problem. In the same way, a bonsaist who shapes his plant well will create a nice bonsai.
But his real aim is to improve himself through the daily practice of being close to nature, beauty and deep thought.

Just think that in the Japanese ancient forms of art, the artist never signed his masterpiece. The ancient Raku teacups weren’t signed, even if really everyone knew where they came from thanks to their different features. Anyway the master didn’t sign them because it wasn’t important for him to be acknowledged for that masterpiece, but rather experience the journey.
