The legend of the Japanese drum goes back to the |

| |
|
time when earth was ruled by the ancient gods. It is said that, once, the Sun Goddess became about her violent brother and hid in a cave.
Thus earth was enveloped in total darkness.
People’s lives became sinister and they decided to lure the sun out of the cave. They began to dance, play music, pray and, finally, beat the drums in front of the cave. |

The sun goddess, curious about what was happening, looked out. Right then the people grabbed her and pulled her out of the cave. The earth was immediately warm and bright again. |

The Taiko exists in different sizes up to a diameter of 2.50 m. It is played with very thick sticks and accordingly with wide movements and a lot of strength. But this is not at all violent; on the contrary, it is very aesthetical and highly sensual. |
